Hit Farmer’s Markets as you Travel for Tasty Local Faire

Traveling gives you access to unique and exciting flavors you wouldn’t find shopping exclusively at your local grocer.

We make a point of popping into a Farmer’s Markets when available to get fresh local foods and discover something uniquely local. In Friday Harbor, San Juan Island we found the Friday Harbor House of Jerky offering jerky made from every kind of meat, including buffalo, venison, elk, kangaroo, wild boar, alligator, snapping turtle, python, rabbit, tuna, trout, shark, swordfish, bacon, turkey, pork, beef, biltong and more. We purchased several packages of salmon jerky. www.FridayHarborHouseofJerky.com.

Bellingham, WA has an incredible Farmer’s Market full of organic, healthy offers, including booths with homemade meat pies.  We purchased a block of an assortment of different types of mushrooms. The witty vendor packaged the selection as “Indecision.”

In Montana we found Huckleberry offerings in a wide variety of products from syrup and jellies to soaps and even huckleberry-infused-vodka martinis. I had never even heard of a huckleberry until we travel through Montana!

So as you travel, explore Farmer’s Markets when possible. If you’re open to trying the local faire, there are certainly new sweet surprises just around the corner waiting to be enjoyed.
